Dental Contracts In England To Receive Pay Hike In November

The cost of dental treatment and appliances continue to rise and many people have to sacrifice dental health because of their economic situation. However, there are Easton dentists whose goal is to provide affordable and quality dental care and treatments so that people can obtain beautiful and healthy smiles.

Confirmation was received from trade union British Dental Association (BDA) that dental contracts in England will receive an increase in pay of 2.42% effective November 2019. The government has accepted the July 2019 recommendation of the Doctor’s and Dentist’s Pay Review Body regarding pay uplift. The pay agreement was reached following negotiations with the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) during the summer of 2019.

During the consultation, BDA argued that the pay of dentists in England must be uplifted. It should match the dentist’s pay in Scotland and Wales which is currently based on the retail price index (RPI) for inflation. DHSC and the HM ministry disagreed so that the amount of pay hike was subsequently calculated based on consumer price index for inflation. This yielded a lower number compared to RPI. It was later announced in October that DHSC has agreed to backdate the pay increase to April 2019.

The pay hike will be applied to 8,000 NHS dental contracts and 2,500 dental practice owners. The owners have the discretion to pass some or the entire award to their associates that are classified as self-employed instead of employees.

The long delay in pay hike is pushing dentists to the edge. It was expected in April but it is only being implemented this November. In recent years, dentists have experienced a 30% decrease in their income. It would help stop long term decline in recruitment and retention if at least 2.5% of the expenses will be awarded. The pay hike will make NHS dentistry attractive to practitioners and will sustain the services provided.

In order to stay current with the latest technologies, Easton dentists are revolutionizing their treatments. Quality dental service and treatments are provided for residents in Easton, Bethlehem and nearby Phillipsburg, NJ. Lowest rates for dental implants, extractions and dentures are guaranteed.
